Epic Computer Build

So for all the people who wanted to know exactly what craziness I've been doing with this computer build, here are the nuts and bolts of it. I got a new HP mini tower with these stats:

- I7 940 CPU

- 12 GB of DDR3 RAM

- Blu-Ray Player w/ DVD-RW

- Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

- 1TB HD

- nVidia 9600 GS

I really dug this system and installed Windows 7 64-bit Beta. But for some reason it kept blue screening. I had a HD crash, they were two 500GB drives in RAID 0, and couldn't keep the thing stable. So I decided to rebuild a computer with the guts of the HP. In the process I had to buy more than I thought I would but now as of today I'm done!!! The new "Epic" system is the following:

- Antec P183 Case

- Antec 750 Watt Power Suppy

- Asus P6T Mobo

- I7 Core 940

- 12 GB DDR3 RAM

- GeForce 275 GTX

- Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

- New 1.5TB Raptor HD

- Blu-Ray Player w/ DVD-RW

This baby screams! I'm also thinking of snagging my other GeForce 275 GTX from my current computer to rock the SLI :) This build took way too many trips to Fry's but in the end it was worth it. Now bring on Diablo III.

What! No Solid state drives? SHAME! SHAME!

P.S. higher capacity drives are more likely to have problems like bad sectors, so I would scan the HDD for defects before you start putting important data on it. That is all.

Sweet system Alex!

I, like another commenter, am confused by your hard drive selection. I don't think they have 500GB Raptors yet, let alone 1.5TB!! That would rock, though. I got the biggest one I could at 300GB and it screams.

Congrats on the new PC, though. I just built mine a couple months ago so I know the feeling! 4 months ago I was playing Overlord at 640x480 and everything turned off. Last week I played Overlord II at 2560x1600 with everything at max! ROCKIN'!!

dude that system is awesome other than the fact that i would have used a overclocked AMD Phenom II 965 processor because you could easily get it up from 3.4 GHz to 3.7-3.8 range if you got a new Cpu cooler also if your spending the money on a kickass system you should have paid the extra 40 or 50 to get the 285 instead of the 275 other than that its a kick ass system although personally i would have got a WD Velociraptor drive but i can see why you got the raptor because its still a damn good drive with the benifit of more than 300 GB of storage but still overall kickass system

I BOUGHT A HP 1YR AND 2MOS AGO. THOUGHT I HAD THE WORLD BY THE TECH. THE FIRST WEEK IT CRASHED. I WAS HEARTBROKEN BUT I HAD INSURANCE. HP WANTED ME TO SEND IT BACK IN! NOW YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND I AM 67 YRS OLD BARILY ABLE TO LOAD THINGS (PAID TO HAVE IT DONE) AND USE THE COMPUTOR FOR WORK. SENDING IT BACK WAS NERVE RACKING AND I COULD NOT IMAGINE LETING MY CONTACTS AND FINANCIAL LEAVE ME. SO I TALKED AND TALKED AND TALKED TO TECH SUPPORT. (ACTUALLY 14 HRS OF TALKING) THEY SUGGEST I HAD A FAULTY MOTHER BOARD. I SUGGESTED THEY HAD GIVEN THIS MOTHER A LEMON; THEY SUGGEST RELOADING WINDOWS; I SUGGESTED THEY CLEAN MY WINDOWS. SO OF COURSE, I COMPLIED AND PAID AGAIN TO HAVE WINDOWS REINSTALLED. OLA! IT CRASHED AGAIN. THE NIGHTMARE CONTINED UNTIL IT FINALLY HAD BLUE LINES AND HP TECH SUPPORT OFFERED TO HAVE ME SEND IT BACK BUT ALAS, I WAS 2MOS OUT OF WARRANTY. EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD SEE I HAD MANY PROBLEMS PRIOR. THEY WANTED $350+ TO FIX THEIR LEMON. WHAT A RACQUET, SHAME ON H P. MAY I SUGGEST BUYING A QUALITY COMPUTOR THAT THE OWNERS STAND BEHIND AND NOT JUST GIVE LIP SERVICE TO. I WISH I KNEW HOW TO POST A PICTURE. IT WOULD LOOK LIKE A OLD WOMEN THROWING HER COMPUTOR IN THE LAKE. I WISH I KNEW HOW TO TALK BAD SO I COULD TELL HP THEY ARE AWFUL, SON....ECT.
